OLD EAST DURHAM CURATORIAL RESIDENCY
April 22 - July 1, 2023
From April 22 through July 1, 2023, Pop Box Gallery and The Art Chose Me curated three exhibits and hosted Slow Art Tours, panel discussions, performances and programs at 304 S Driver Street, Ste 102, Durham, NC 27703.
Meet our collaborator: Gail Belvett
Curatorial, administrative, and programming support for Pop Box Gallery’s Old East Durham Residency is a collaboration between Gail Belvett (The Art Chose Me), Laura Ritchie, and Mavis Gragg.
Gail Belvett, DDS, a graduate of the UNC Adams School of Dentistry, founded Southpoint Family Dentistry in 2007.
In 2018, Gail sold Southpoint Family Dentistry to deepen her involvement in the arts. In 2020, she founded The Art Chose Me, whose mission is to dismantle the obstacles—real and perceived—that limit access to the potentially life changing experience of art.
The Art Chose Me provides curatorial and administrative services to value-aligned artists and institutions in the Triangle area.

Join us for a Slow Art Tour with Gail Belvett of We [don't] Care: reclaiming our environment.
A slow art tour presents a philosophical and literal alternative to the way visitors have traditionally consumed art. The tour challenges the notion that one needs to ‘know’ about art to appreciate it. A group of people gather to slowly savor a single object, looking closely while engaging multiple senses. Free and open to the public.
“Meet the Artist” is a conversation series hosted by Pop Box Gallery cofounder, Mavis Gragg. Mavis sits down with an artist or arts professional to discuss their work, providing practical tips for collecting art.
In this special edition of the series, Mavis will lead a panel discussion with some of the featured artists in our current exhibit, We don't Care: reclaiming our environment. Free and open to the public. Image: Jessica Clark, Dark Water 6, 20.5” x 26.5”, 2021
