Artful Endings: Funeral and Estate Planning Through Craft and Reflection

This creative, hands-on workshop will guide participants through the fundamentals of estate planning and funeral planning, with a special focus on the unique needs and concerns of artists and art collectors. The objective is to empower attendees with the knowledge and tools they need to plan their legacy and make thoughtful decisions about how they want their estate and funeral to be handled.

Planning: Attendees will learn the essential elements of estate planning and funeral planning, including planning for your art, whether you are an artist or a collector.

Artmaking:  Then attendees will reflect on their personal legacies, and create a physical object, a 6 inch coffin or a church hand fan that symbolizes their future estate and funeral plan. We will provide miniature coffins and blank church fans in addition to art supplies for decorating. You are welcome to bring your own supplies for your use and/or to share. Limit 20 attendees.

Free: Donations of $10 or any amount are welcome. However, there is no fee for the event.

Dates, Time, and Location: The workshop will be offered on Saturdays, 9/21 and 10/12, from 1-3pm at Queen Street Magic Boat (406 N. Queen Street, Durham, NC). We will begin with a 30 minute discussion about estate and funeral planning and spend the remaining time art making. Folks are welcome to attend either or both workshops.

Sponsored by HeirShares, the Scrap Exchange, and Ellis D. Jones and Sons Funeral Directors.

Registration: Register for September 21st here and October 12th here.
